The village form comprises two rows of properties typical of 11th-12th century planning. The eastward end of the village probably terminated at Glebe Farm and Orchard; the area to the east of these being 19th century development subsequent to the construction of the hall. The extent of the village to the west is defined as the field adjacent to Town End Farm on the north side of the road which contained the excavated earthworks of 3 medieval tofts. On the south side of the road opposite this site are further preserved earthworks. 6 fields of ridge and furrow at west end of Elton Village, west of Town End Farm. All running roughly nnw -ssw.
