High Burntoft farmstead, Hartlepool

High Burntoft farmstead lies in the parish of Elwick Hall close to the modern day A19 trunk road. Medieval in origin, the modern farm (19th century) is surrounded by good examples of ridge and furrow, trackways, field boundaries and ponds. The present ridge and furrow fields system appears later than medieval in date but undoubtedly follows a more ancient pattern of ploughing.
