Getting Involved

Archaeology is a subject that many people feel is relevant to them. It allows them to learn about their community and its past and to learn new skills. If you are one of these people and would like to get involved there are a number of ways you can do so.

Attend a Tees Archaeology Event

Tees Archaeology organise a range of events with our partners including guided walks, talks, an annual day-school, exhibitions and open days at excavations. Check our events page for forthcoming activities.

Volunteer for an excavation

Many people make a start in archaeology by volunteering on a local excavation. We run several excavations a year where volunteers are welcome (see our events page for forthcoming digs). As places are limited volunteers must pre-book to guarantee a place. Booking forms are usually sent out at least 6 weeks before the excavations begin. If you would like to receive a booking form please send us your details and indicate which project you are interested in.

Join us on work experience

We have a limited number of places for school and college students on work experience. This may be site or office based depending on the projects we are working on at the time of your placement. Again booking is essential. Please contact us if you would like to carry out your work experience with us.
