TAS Who we are The Teesside Archaeological Society (TAS) is an active archaeological society covering Cleveland and the surrounding area. There is a monthly programme of lecture meetings held in Stockton Library * with speakers varying from professional archaeologists and University lecturers to experienced amateurs. (* an alternative venue may be used during the forthcoming library refurbishment. Details to be announced) During the summer there are visits to local excavations and opportunities for fieldwork. The Society issues an annual journal to keep members informed about archaeology in the region and publishes an occasional series of excavation reports. We welcome everyone interested in archaeology whatever their level of experience.
How to join us The annual subscriptions 2010 are: Member £12.00 Joint Member £20.00 Subscriptions can be paid to the treasurer either by post or at one of the meetings.
Cheques should be made payable to 'Teesside Archaeological Society' and are due on the 1st January each year. Excavations at Street House Iron Age Settlement 2004 2006 by Steve Sherlock A Romano-British settlement at Street House, North East Yorkshire NZ 7390 1965 An archaeological report on the excavation of a roman building at Street House, near Loftus, undertaken in 2008. This 40 page report concerns the excavation of a building within an enclosure at Street House that has been dated to the fourth century AD. The report contains reports on the pottery, jet working, plant macro-fossils and quernstones with a comment on the metalwork and glass. A discussion on the nearby parallels places the site in its context. There are 16 illustrations and 4 photographic images. The site is to the south of a previously excavated Iron Age settlement and Anglo-Saxon cemetery.
