Excavations at Street House Iron Age Settlement 2004 – 2006 by Steve Sherlock

A report on the excavations of the Iron Age settlement at Streethouse, North East Yorkshire has now been published by Teesside Archaeological Society.

The report is an excavation account with discussion and plans of the six round houses that were excavated in 2005-2006, following trial excavations in 2004.

The report has specialist reports on the pottery, flints and plant macro-fossils that were found on this interesting site. The other finds include fragments of worked jet, an enigmatic miniature quernstone and six stone balls.

The evidence for salt manufacture is also presented at this site. A discussion places the site in its regional context.

The Iron Age settlement has been radiocarbon dated between the third century BC and the 0AD. There is also evidence for earlier monuments in the immediate area.

This site also has revealed evidence for Romano-British and Anglo-Saxon activity that will be presented fully in later reports.

The report is available at the lectures of Teesside Archaeological Society or direct from Steve Sherlock at Elm Lea, Malton Road, York, YO31 9LT.

Email stephen.sherlock@ntlworld.com

The report consists of 50 pages and costs £5 with a further £1 for postage (total £6).
