< Previous Image | Picture : 3 of 7 | Next Image > Extensive and complex crop-mark enclosure site visible on aerial photographs. The cropmarks occupy a gravel ridge approximately 150m east west by 250m north south to the south of Northburn Bridge and east of the old A19. Further cropmarks have been identified to the north and to the south suggesting that this formed part of a larger settlement complex. The cropmarks were transcribed in 1998 and consisted of four sub-rectangular enclosures one of which contained marks indicative of sunken floored buildings typically associated with Anglo-Saxon settlement | Hartlepool Home | |
