Morleston

Morleston

Picture : 1 of  2 | Next Image >

May 1975. The place name is documented in 1344 as Morleston and in the 15th century as Morleston next Tunstall. Its final appearance in documentation is in 1632 in a sale by Fairfax to Riddell. Aerial photographs indicate three areas of surviving earthworks to the east of Tunstall Hall. To the immediate east of the Hall are at least two raised platforms bisected by a substantial routeway. Further to the east is a small rectangular enclosure/farmyard with a sub-square house platform/farmstead at its northern edge. A small pond lies to the immediate east of these features. To the north of this site ridge and furrow earthworks are preserved running east-west.
