High Stotfield

High Stotfield

Complex ridge and furrow field system surrounding the medieval farmstead of High Stotfold. The ridges are broad with some degree of curving in their plan suggesting a medieval date. Stotfold is recorded in medieval documentary sources from the 14th century onwards. The estate is divided in to High, Middle and Low Stotfold along with Stotfold Moor. High Stotfold is in use as a working farm. It is surrounded by ridge and furrow earthworks and other earthworks suggest that this is the site of a medieval farmstead. In the field to the west of the farm is a trapezoidal pond. There is also a holloway leading to the farm buildings cutting across the ridge and furrow.
