Who we are

The Cleveland Industrial Archaeology Society began life in 1965 as the Teesside Industrial Archaeology Group. We believe that the industrial history of the north east and Yorkshire is important and we work for its preservation.  Our members make records of industrial sites and equipment, carry out historical research and work to help the preservation of business records and physical relics themselves.

The Society organises a programme of lectures and site visits. It publishes two or three newsletters a year, containing short contributions and current news.

We also publish the Cleveland Industrial Archaeologist. This is a journal containing more substantial items of members research. Research reports, on single topics investigated in depth, are produced from time to time.

Visitors are welcome at all meetings; normally there is no charge. The Cleveland Industrial Archaeologist and the newsletters are kept by the reference sections of the principal libraries in the area. Members receive newsletters and the Cleveland Industrial Archaeologist for free.

We welcome everyone interested in industrial heritage whatever their level of experience.
