About Us Tees Archaeology is the archaeological service for the four unitary local authorities of Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees. Tees Archaeology has the responsibility to record, research, conserve and inform about all aspects of the archaeology of the area.
The Tees Valley and its Archaeology The Tees Valley lies on the north-east coast of England, roughly mid way between Newcastle and York. The area has an abundance of archaeological remains. Its varied local landscapes including high moors, river valleys and coast, and their associated mineral wealth, have proved attractive to many people in the past. There is plentiful evidence for Prehistoric settlers, Roman traders, Anglo-Saxon migrants, Viking invaders, conquering Normans, Medieval farmers and pioneering Victorian industrialists. Today it is our responsibility to help preserve the remains of our past so that they can be properly understood and enjoyed by ourselves and future generations. |
