Education
Education
and Community
Archaeology are the main service areas underpinning
our work.
We
aim to:
Promote
archaeology by education at all levels of knowledge.
Heighten
public awareness and interest in archaeology.
Improve
access to and interpretation of archaeological
sites.
Our
website is the latest step in our push to promote
archaeology to a wider audience. The provision
of information has always been given a high priority
in the archaeology service. We provide regular
press releases, a bi-annual newsletter, leaflets,
booklets, talks, guided visits and walks, temporary
exhibitions and have permanent displays at Norton
Library and the Castle Eden Walkway visitors centre
at Thorpe Thewles.
In
recent years our educational work has focused
on providing practical hands on experience for
people wanting to get involved in archaeology.
In 2003 we ran three public involvement excavations
at Catcote,
Hartlepool; Foxrush
Farm, Redcar and Stewarts Park, Middlesbrough.
These excavations allow a broad range of people
to become involved from primary school children
and university students to life long learners.
If
you would like to get involved with any of our
projects please see our getting
involved/volunteer’s page or contact
