East Hartburn

July 1987. Village first recorded in 1184 when there were 'twelve and a half villeinage tenements each consisting of 2 oxgangs of land each'. The village plan is well preserved within an largely urban environment and consists of two rows of properties facing each other over a broad village green. The green is now enclosed as front gardens. Ridge and furrow survives to the south of the village. A small archaeological evaluation took place at Village Paddock in 1996 prior to house building.
