West Hartburn

The deserted settlement of West Hartburn includes Goosepool, Foster-House and Gingerbread House. Two rows of cottages with a central well remained in 1823, and according to tradition the chapel and burial ground were at Long Newton or Goosepool. The site of the deserted Medieval village is now marked by turf covered banks and ditches forming low rectangular platforms within open or closed rectangular and sub-rectangular enclosures. Two hollow ways run to the north and south of the modern road.
