Country house. c. 1770, altered and expanded by Ignatius Bonomi. Incorporates remains of medieval castle of the de Brus family. Motte and bailey castle pulled down in 1888-94. Traces of old building remain in back part of present building. Castle probably founded c. 1072-75 by Richard de Surdeval. de Brus family came into possession c.1100 -1119.
