Maltby

First recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 AD as 'Maltebi'. The village is a planned settlement comprising of two rows which may have been divided by a green. Early maps and aerial photos suggest that the village became severely shrunken in the late of post Medieval period. Several remains of Medieval properties have been destroyed through recent housing developments, however grave goods from a female Pagan Saxon burial have also been discovered on site. This suggests that an Anglo-Saxon settlement may have pre-dated the Medieval village.
